Looking to the Future
As we edge ever closer to our 20th year as Claytons MOT now is a good time to give you a little update on our future plans. If you are on our email list you would have noticed our short questionnaire a few months back to gauge information on how best to move forwards whilst retaining our valued customer base.
With a database of over 3,000 customers with a great array of vehicles, we simply cannot specialise on each car in the market. What we can ensure is we have the ability to service and MOT as many of those vehicles as possible, our regular customers will never be turned away regardless of what they drive in the future, but we may have limited capacity for fault finding.
Changing Face of Technology
Technology in the motor industry moves at such a pace you need as much support as possible. The days of running Autodata or looking in a Haynes manual are long gone, we need technical information from the Manufacturer & this all comes at a cost.
Along with this, we need an interface individual to that manufacturer to allow you to carry out specific tasks, an average car will now have 20 to 30 control modules all talking to each other over a data bus network. When a component is replaced, it has to be coded, in effect what this is doing is informing the vehicle that the component has been replaced to ensure all the modules remain happy.
So far in 2017, we've added a new cloud based garage management system allowing SMS estimates, booking & MOT reminders. It also allows us to measure work loads more efficiently and estimate how much each technician requires per job. (Even down to the air conditioning in the workshop for the one week of sunshine we have!).
Alongside this we purchased Autologic Assist Plus, adding to our coverage for BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Jaguar, & Peugeot/Citroen. Main dealer specific platforms are now essential to any garage so to add to Vauxhall, Saab and the Ford platforms we already had, we now have ODIS for VW, Audi, Seat & Skoda.
Our partners at Bosch have recently developed the Bosch KTS-590 vehicle interface that will work with multiple manufacturer platforms on each of the above. Currently, we operate have 2 x KTS-590 and the 2 original KTS units, meaning each technician has their own laptop. This has a dramatic impact at speeding up servicing, repair & diagnosis to help keep you on the road.
Expansion of the Courtesy Vehicle Fleet
Because of this ever changing environment in technology, it can take some time to develop staff training and knowledge. In some cases patience is essential, which is why the courtesy car fleet has had 2 new additions. For commercial customers, we also have plans to introduce a small van as another loan vehicle option.
Unfortunately, James & Tracy still have a good few years before retiring, so this is our commitment to you our fantastic and loyal customers, we look forward to providing as good a quality service we can for the next 20 years!
